About
Global GHG emissions continue to rise. 40% are released from the built environment, with over half of that due to the operation of buildings.
The rate of turnover of building stock is low, with 65% of the total expected number of buildings by 2040 having already been constructed today.
Old, inefficient building stock is responsible for approximately £17.1 billion of wasted natural gas/electricity per annum in the UK alone.
Reaching the negative emissions scenarios required to stave off the worst impacts of climate change will be impossible without addressing the impact of existing building stock. However, current retrofit strategies are onerous & rely on unsubstantiated methods. Founded in 2024 at the University of Cambridge, Viriturr generates optimised & holistic retrofit design plans with accompanying timelines to decarbonise existing non-domestic buildings. Our goal is to generate effective retrofit designs at low cost to a broad range of clients through an empirical, evidence based approach.
Science
Viriturr's platform generates retrofit designs using a holistic, ecosystem based approach to building physics, powered by machine learning inference and multi objective optimisation. These generated designs can deliver a reduction in carbon intensity of up to 60% with an associated reduction in building operation costs of 30%.
Viriturr is engaging with select pilot partners to test the technology in situ. For further information on the technology or to join our development partner programme, please contact us directly via partners@viriturr.com.
